I Have A Question

As the holidays approach, I have been thinking about how to make gift-giving more meaningful, holidays more special and spend more time focusing on the real meaning of Christmas. Le and I's anniversary is on December 10th and having it so close to Christmas makes the holidays a little stressful. So I want to ask all of you. What are some cool gift-giving ideas, party plans or family traditions that you have that you want to share?

Depending on your zest for the creative, we have done "handmade only" gifts (and due to the fact that we don't have any income right now, it's going to be another one of those years!), and we have also gotten together to pool our money (siblings & parents) to give to charities instead of exchanging gifts. It keep the focus on giving - not receiving. Much less stressful and keeps the focus on the "least of these"

with both of our extended families, we usually pick names for the adults. all adults chip in $10-$15 to a pot that is then divided amongst the number of kids. this way, both kids and adults ONLY get one present.

we didn't do it last year but before that, for a few years, we used to adopt a local family and all meet at walmart to go shopping. that was so much fun!

time to start planning this year's events! :)

I know you and Le already do alot, but there is a really neat tradition called "White Envelope Christmas." You can Google it, but basically, it's a wife's story about her husband, who every year would do something extremely generous for someone/a group of people in need. He wouldn't tell his wife and kids, but instead write a note about it, which was put into a white envelope on the tree. Every year, the family opened it together, and it became their favorite part of Christmas. The husband passed away from cancer, but his wife carried on the tradition. Tim and I are starting it this year, and we are so excited! (We have to have 2 envelopes because both of us wanted to pick something to do, lol).
